Cinematography

Scream Opening Scene

Cinematography is used in thriller films to show all the different expressions that the characters portray throughout the film. It is also used to show the various backgrounds in all the shots which allow the audience to get a feel for the film and feel the characters emotions.

One of the camera shots that was used in the film was close up, the evidence for this was when the camera done a close up on the dad as the girl was getting attacked. This shot was done to show the emotion in the face of the dad, this relates because it shows how the dad is feeling after he finds out his daughter Is missing. This sort of shot is excited in a thriller/horror.

The second shot that was shown in this trailer was a mid-shot, this was when the women that was getting attacked was holding the phone and the murder weapon In this case a knife. It was used to make the audience feel like they were in the film and what the victim is going through and also shows the actors body language. It was conventional because she is scared of the killer and it shows how she is panicking in the face of Death.

The last shot that was identified in the trailer was a long shot, when the murderer was chasing the victim with a knife. It was to show the audience facing while she was running away and how her fear is affecting her. It relates as it shows the murder scene in full and how Ghost face is attacking her.

Cinematography is used in thriller films to show the audience how they are feeling through their facial expressions and what emotion they are currently experiencing. This involves the audience that are watching the film to help them gather an understanding of what is currently happening, as the killer could be threatening them and without them saying anything you can gather an understanding purely from the cinematography, this analysis will help me when i come to do my own thriller film as I will now be able to create facial expressions that the audience will be able to understand what is going on with the characters etc.

  1. Your post on cinematography shows some understanding of how camera shots are used within your chosen film clip.

You have identified the correct point but your analysis is too weak and this is because you have not followed the PEER format. This post needs to be changed so that your analysis is stronger.
